Current state. The Project "International Dictionary of Intellectual Historians" is currently (2007) undergoing a re-organisation. Until 2005, the project has been based at the Herzog August Bibliothek (Wolfenbuettel, Germany). Since 2006, the project is relocated at Leipzig University Library.

Aim of the project. IDIH provides a database listing twentieth-century authors with important historical works which have marked the understanding of intellectual history. Up to 1000 intellectual historians, from various countries and disciplines, will be listed with bio-bibliographical information and an article outlining their work. The database contains over 800 head entries and a few sample articles.

Entry criteria. There are three major criteria: Historians who qualify for the IDIH project
must have published two major works in intellectual history
(1) not earlier than 1900 and not later than 1970. These works must be
(2) broad in scope, not focused on a single intellectual figure, and in a broad sense narrative
(3) Writers chosen for inclusion must have been influential on subsequent work
These criteria are not absolutely exclusive and will be subject to discussion within the academic community at large (see conferences).

You are invited to contribute! The IDIH is a work in progress with the help and participation of scholars worldwide. It is carried out in cooperation with the International Society for Intellectual History. If you are interested in suggesting entries or participating actively in the work of the dictionary, please contact us!

Sample Articles. The list of sample articles in the database is constantly growing. Once funding is secured for the IDIH-project, proper editing procedures will be put into place.
